Artwork preparation guide for the professional Graphic Designer

VECTORIZED Artwork (Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator (.eps) SET-UP

  • Design your artwork (graphics & fonts) in spot colors using the Pantone Solid Coated pallette in your drawing program (do not use CMYK).
  • If white is used in the design, place a colored square background behind your design so we can clearly see all visible colors in your design.
  • Make all strokes or lines at least 2pt. Anything under may not print. Do not trap / choke any Lines or strokes. We have our own methods of doing this and it varies per job.
  • If your design has gradients or shades in it. Do not assign halftone sizes, angles, or shapes to the halftones. We have our own methods of doing this and it varies per job.
  • Outline all fonts or convert them to curves. (or send us a copy of all the fonts and font names used in your design).
  • In addition to your artwork file please Provide a low-res jpeg or PDF comp of what the completed job should look like when printed.

RASTER Image Artwork (Adobe Photo Shop) SET-UP

  • Start your design with the page document set to the final printed image size @ 100% (this will be the final "physical size" the image will be printed on the shirt).
  • A full front/back design would be 12"wide by 14" high. crest print size 4" wide by 3" high.
  • It is very important to start your document page resolution at 300dpi. (do not up sample or increase the image resolution after the design is done. (If up sampled or increased there will be a substantial drop in the images final printed quality.)
  • Please use RGB color mode when designing your images. Use the Pantone Solid Coated color palette when coloring and keep your colors consistent.
  • Do not trap/choke any text, or design elements. We have our own methods of doing this.
  • If your design has gradients or shades in it. Do not assign halftone sizes, angles, or shapes to the halftones. We have our own methods of doing this and it varies per job.
  • The .PSD artwork file should be Saved with all the layers that make up your design. Include a colored background layer titled "Shirt Color" this should be placed as the last layer in your Photo Shop layers palette. (This is a good way of showing what the design will look like printed on the shirt color).
  • In addition to your artwork file please Provide a low-res jpeg or PDF comp of what the completed job should look like when printed.

**Note: Try to keep the artwork as clean as possible by naming all your layers in conjunction with what they actually are. When the image gets in-house and is prepped to go on film, we separate everything in channels using spot colors. We have to use a great deal of masking to accomplish this and keeping your layers named and organized will help in this process.
